Lannice is one of the most prominent South African food icons, author of 17 books, publisher, journalist, restaurant critic and culinary consultant.
Rickety Bridge, the boutique Franschhoek wine estate, has come into its own over the past few years: an achievement largely attributable to the team's overhauling of various facets of this charming property. This venture with Lannice is the latest step in the evolution of this estate, and compliments its quality wines, luxury Franschhoek acommodation and wonderful restautrant and wedding venue.
Together with her daughter, Tamsin, Lannice dreamed up the product range, which includes: speciality salts, salad splashes, squeezes and sambals.
The project has been a year in the making, during which time Lannice and Tamsin did in-depth research of what was available on the local market. Lannice also travelled to the Britain, Spain and France to scour the shelves of supermarkets, delis and farmer's markets to see what is hot and happening there.
Widely acknowledged as the foremost authority on the history of South African cuisine, much of the range is faithful to Lannice's African roots. And, firmly believing in treading as lightly as possible on the earth, no additives, colourants or preservatives are used, and ingredients are, where possible, grown on the home estate (for example fruit, chillies and herbs) or sourced from local producers.
